Lessons Learned
Logging in
On a kali vm/ linux machine
Type:
Completing The Challenge
The Goal:
The credentials for the next level can be retrieved by submitting the password of the current level to a port on localhost in the range 31000 to 32000. First find out which of these ports have a server listening on them. Then find out which of those speak SSL and which don’t. There is only 1 server that will give the next credentials, the others will simply send back to you whatever you send to it.
The Solution:
bandit16@bandit:~$ nmap -p31000-32000 localhost
Not shown: 996 closed ports
PORT STATE SERVICE
31046/tcp open unknown
31518/tcp open unknown

bandit16@bandit:~$ nmap -A -p31000-32000 localhost
Nmap scan report for localhost (127.0.0.1)
Host is up (0.00030s latency).

I have no idea where to go so i will research
I had tried using the private key, but from an external computer, https://medium.com/@theGirlWhoEncrypts/overthewire-bandit-level-16-level-17-958bd0bfcbc4 mentions putting the key in the temp directory, im thinking private keys or at least the private keys found in bandit over the wire only work through localhost, external connections still require a password
write the RSA key to a folder in the /tmp directory, then using what we learned in bandit 13, though, remember that private keys have specific read write rules that need to be implemented. there are options, but this is the one i remember
bandit16@bandit:~$ chmod 0600 /tmp/fantm/private
bandit16@bandit:~$ ssh -i /tmp/fantm/private bandit17@localhost
...
Enjoy your stay!
bandit17@bandit:~$
